Virginia gave an update on Virginia running back Perris Jones on Saturday morning.

Jones was hospitalized after suffering an apparent neck injury in Virginia’s loss to Louisville on Thursday night. He was carted off the field in Louisville after receiving medical attention on the field for several minutes.

On Saturday, Virginia shared that Jones has undergone successful spine surgery at the University of Louisville medical center. The program said Jones was “briefly” able to walk and that he remains under observation.

Jones likely has a long road of rehabilitation ahead of him, but being able to walk is seemingly a positive sign for his recovery. Virginia previously shared that Jones had regained movement in all of his extremities.

Jones is in his 5th season at Virginia. He posted a career-best season in 2023, rushing for 393 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also 6 passes for 107 yards this season.

Virginia will host Duke on Saturday.
