Virginia absorbed a heavy 49-13 loss against Tennessee in Nashville to open its season. Now, Tony Elliott and his team return to Charlottesville for their season opener versus James Madison.

The Cavaliers and Dukes haven’t met on the football field in nearly 40 years. It will be far from a gimme for the Cavs against a team that was an FBS newcomer in 2022, going 8-3 and finishing as the co-champion of the Sun Belt East Division.

Saturday will also be a special day for Virginia as it’s their first home game since the death of 3 Cavalier football players on Nov. 12. Per ESPN, Scott Stadium’s north end zone will be painted with a “UVA Strong” logo, while the field boundary will contain the names of the victims — Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry.

Virginia will wear all-orange, revealing its uniform combination on Thursday:

Kickoff from Scott Stadium in Charlottesville is set for noon ET. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
