Pittsburgh defeated Louisville 38-21 on Saturday night.

It’s a stunning result, particularly given where these teams were positioned in the ACC standings coming into tonight.

Louisville entered the game with a 6-0 record and was coming off of a 33-20 win over Notre Dame in Week 6. The Cardinals dominated the Irish and ended their 30-game winning streak vs. ACC opposition in the regular season.

Pitt underperformed in its first five contests and entered this game with a 1-4 record. The Panthers also made a quarterback change during their bye week, going from Phil Jurkovec to the inexperienced Christian Veilleux.

But it was Veilleux who out-dueled Louisville quarterback Jack Plummer in this one. Veilleux threw for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns on 26 attempts while not throwing an interception. Plummer had a rough night, tossing 2 picks while throwing for just 284 yards on 45 attempts.

The loss could significantly impact Louisville’s chances of reaching the ACC Championship Game this season. The Cardinals were one of four ACC teams who were undefeated in league play entering this week. Florida State, North Carolina and Duke are also vying for a title game berth with Clemson and Miami on the periphery as well.
